class wiki and blog

Hi class!
I mentioned to Dr. Gut that I had created a Wiki and blog posting for my 7th grade LANGUAGE ARTS class at Alexander-HOLOCAUST Unit. Thought you might be interested in bookmarking it, as it has a great deal of resources I have linked for the kids to use. If you are interested...check it out! Click below! Need I mention-Big Tom inspired the blog creation for the kids to use for sharing their thoughts and feelings about current activities..it has been quite the learning experience as has our Live text NEXT GENERATION (is that something I can put on my resume..sounds so official, jk.)

Your holocaust wiki is an excellent resource.

Do you think that developing a resource directory+ through tools such as wikis could become an important pedagogical skill just like lesson planning in the future.

Seventh graders watch video like that wow!
Maybe when I was in High School they would show piles of dead bodies.

actually there have been some changes to the wiki.
and the YouTubes resources that are attached are blocked at school, but I keep them on the wiki for my own resource.

Yeah, I know it is tricky with kids viewing the sensitive material...but we discuss with the kids about the pictures, some of them are reproductions, and other footage is authentic.

When I did student teaching with 8th graders we did a unit on the Civil Rights movement, we showed very few videos because we didn't have the tech advances we have had at Alexander, but the one video I did show had a lynching in the foreground and one kid in one class reacted...don't you know the rest of the class backed him up on it and they all felt very offended, peer modeling will substantially guide how the resource media is going to be received by the kids.

I think it is best to be cautious and then remember this the 21st century..if kids are playing games which include a duty of killing.. I'd like to show the actual result of such destruction and mass killings, maybe because we shield away from showing these documents, kids find it 'normal' to play with the ideas.

In more recent news, I have created a wiki for the school to keep teacher resources...something you might want to check out and consider developing for your employer...I think it really brings the community together.

Tom,
I absolutely think wiki/ webquest developing will eventually be given more attention by teacher training programs. I only took one coarse in undergrad for tech...and this is exactly why Livetext changes have been scary. It is unfortunate. I linked the Youtube-Gut showed us concerning 21st Century skills and viewed it again...what has stuck with me is that..as educators we are preparing citizens for jobs that are not-yet created...we need to use what we know and that is we live in a much smaller world since technology can provide us with information at just a touch...we need to utilize our resources and provide students with opportunities to use/build their tech capabilities...
