livetext did something good!

I was typing my assessment section for this lesson plan and my cat who has traumatic brain injury (really) ran into the computer and turned it off. When I went back into livetext, prepared to retype everything, it said that it had recovered some unsaved information and there was all of my work. Thanks livetext for not making me throw my computer (or cat) out of the window!

I am taking a study break and I need to know if this: is a bad "font" day in livetext land? What the hell is going on with the font? When I click finish 1/2 of my work is in the teeny tiny font and half is in small. I clicked edit and highlighted the print; went to font and clicked on small; hit save and finish and WALAH....1/2 and 1/2! This has not happened for a long long time.
I oh so wanted to blog something positive. But fate has stepped in. Oh- The font and alignment is funky on my other project.
Okay here's a positive thing. I do prefer to work on a live text document rather than a word doc within livetext because of the crazy way the document shifts (yes I was tempted to write &*#*'s) when you type.
Can you cuss on these blogs?
I did the survey last week, but how do you know that I completed it?
And how sad just when I am getting the hang of this blog thing: time is up!

me again, short and sweet, why can't I submit assignments early? I want to be done with Lesson 4, but it won't let me submit, no fair.

opening two livetext tabs

I don't know if this was a function of the old LiveText, but thought I'd mention that to ease assignment reproduction, I open two tabs of LiveText, it makes for an easy copy and paste function from Lesson to Lesson.

Is it grammatically correct to capitalize in a term such as LiveText, how does that work? I had a challenge writing the term WebQuest appropriately, I found some people spaced it(Web Quest), while others lower cased in text (Webquest). Any thoughts?
In this new generation of technology are our new tech terms lacking grammatical coherence? and why is that alright?

class wiki and blog

Hi class!
I mentioned to Dr. Gut that I had created a Wiki and blog posting for my 7th grade LANGUAGE ARTS class at Alexander-HOLOCAUST Unit. Thought you might be interested in bookmarking it, as it has a great deal of resources I have linked for the kids to use. If you are interested...check it out! Click below! Need I mention-Big Tom inspired the blog creation for the kids to use for sharing their thoughts and feelings about current activities..it has been quite the learning experience as has our Live text NEXT GENERATION (is that something I can put on my resume..sounds so official, jk.)

The spell check for livetext STINKS STINKS STINKS!!!!

So does the UNDO button, I lost my work and could not retrieve it.(Luckily it was only two sentences) And now I am stuck in BOLD on this blog thing because I cannot get out of it!

review/comment portion

The first time I reviewed Lesson 1 I was able to see Dr. Gut's comments, I wanted to reference them again, as I completed Lesson 2, but it appears the comments are no longer visible for me to see...is this because she set mine up for resubmission.
Help! How can I review the comments of my last lesson.

Last Question: Review Process

Has the review process for Livetext improved compared to the last version? Has it been easier or have unexpected problems emerged?

Video of Microteaching

Hi
I am still trying to figure out a way to attach the video of our microteaching lessons. I have spent many hours attempting this feat and have been told it is the impossible. I've tried condensing the file and attaching it to LT although LT doesn't not want to seem to attach it or cooperate. I know Tom, that you said you were going to ponder the issue and was wondering if you have any thoughts. Thanks!

Submitting for review

I agree with Raechel!
I thought I had missed a step somewhere.
Hi Big Tom
I may be jinxing myself because there is still one day left in the week, BUT I actually have nothing to B*#!* about this week in reference to livetext. Well, the Indiana Jones theme song keeps playing in my head whenever I successfully attach a photo(it could be the commercials), yep it's a good thing we are limited to one photo or I would have a collage! There are a gazillion photos on google, in the jpig format! Still wish you could center it or place it exactly in the perfect spot but am happy to be able to attach a photo.
And I have finally figured out which edit tab you and Dr. Gut were talking about to open and access the discovery resource! Because you are the Tech King, I have decided to honor you by naming you, Mr. Tom, as my computer technology teacher in my lesson plan. There you go, you are teaching my kids amazing things to do on computers! Thank you.

submitting for review

Hi Tom, I commented on this once before but hadn't heard back. When we submit things for review, on this new version you have to search for the professor's name, then add it, then submit. On the old version, you only had to do this once and it was added to your list of reviewers. It's not that inconvienient, but just seems like one extra step not needed.

I will see you tomorrow before class

I will come up to your classroom a half hour before class starts tomorrow. I will try my best to resolve questions about widgets, reviewing submissions, and united streaming. Look for me in your room from 4:30 to 5:10.
Oh this new stuff is frustrating. We were given directions to find our assessment reviews, but it is a challenging process. I do not like having to scroll and search everywhere. I found my review once by chance. Well just had to vent. I was able to activate my unitedstreaming, but I have not been able to access it through my assignment. If I had 47 hours in a day I just might be able to figure out some of this techie stuff. One more thing.. if we are able to have access to a sample project...why are we denied access to the links within the document? I know I am rambling..sorry.

what has happened to our education system since testing
a fun video in Puppet style explaining the disastrous outcome of NCLB and Standardized Test

snowboard game for kids

Understreaming questions and Comp Lab class

In the future, I think it would nice if we could substitute a class or a portion of class to fieldtrip it to the Computer Lab for help with Livetext.
I tried attaching a Understream video, but it keeps asking me to download their media player, but I did that last time...so I'm giving up, and going to try google video as suggested.

think it over, I know we have material to cover in class, but maybe the second to-last week or so we can spend time in the lab, uploading items and etc. we still need help with, the classes thoughts????

Lesson Plan? To use Word or Live Text. . .

Live text has praxis lesson plan forms should I use that instead of a word doc. this week?
HELP. . . I am not sure what has to be submitted on live text this week- Lesson plan, and Material review-maybe just the less0n plan?
Live text is impossible to word process on the (spell check is a joke) !

what is a widget?

Hi Tom, I was just wondering what exactly a widget is? I think that is the right spelling. There is something wrong with the one on the reviews section of livetext and I was just curious. Thanks

Monday, May 5, 2008

I know Dr. Gut just reviewed this, but where can I get to Livetext United streaming...I looked under my resources page and it doesn't show up once I press edit. Could this be because I didn't purchase that enriched Livetext with the videos?

Images and clipart

Hey Big Tom
Dr. Gut mentioned your Indiana Jones analogy! So I decided to take an Indy adventure with the case study portfolio., because after all I can create as many portfolios as I need! I just have to remember which one I have to keep. I was able to attach an image and place it in a section, BUT I cannot figure out how to adjust and center it once it is in the section. I chose several options and the picture is always left of center. I would like to add a clip art image. I was able to attach the image but the image will not open. It is some red blob thing. I went to the help section and printed off the directions about how to attach an image.
HOWEVER...I still cannot center my picture or figure out a way for the clipart image to appear.
Any suggestions?
By the way livetext documents are not as stressful as Word documents.
Did I tell you how helpful your video was? Thanks!
Annie

How has your experience been on the Google Blog. Have you considered posting your own questions? Have you answered other classmates questions? What other ways would you have preferred to communicate as a class?

Hey Big Tom
I do not know where this will end up...I do not know which is more of a pain in the BUTT, learning this blogging thing or the new live text.
Sign in first!!!!
So many changes.
The wiki is okay, what is wiki again?
But I still have not been able to figure out how to create a personal new portfolio.
Hey are you submitting to the livetest convention??
You should...love the tutorial!

IEP's vs Lesson Plans

1. Please remember that because you are completing the IEP form using Microsoft Word, that you will have to re attach the completed IEP into the LiveText Document section before you "submit the Assignment".

2. If you have created more than one LiveText document (selecting "using this template" multiple times), select the documents navigation tab in order to find the appropriate LiveText document.
Once you have selected the right document use the following steps to "submit assignment" from with in the document.

SUBMITTING ASSIGNMENT FROM WITHIN LT DOCUMENT
1. Once you have completed the assignment, select "Submit Assignment" (within the document)
2 .Choose assignment and press "Select for Submission"
3. Select "submit assignment" on the right of the screen.

Wikispace Instructional Handouts

Has anyone used the wikispace as a LiveText reference yet? Has it been helpful? Is it useless?Does it need any additional tutorials?

Hi Big Tom
Need to vent.....
A comment about the placement of the log off ( tab? is there a techy word for clicking on this ?) position. I do not remember it being combined in the middle with 3 other tabs. I am consistently clicking the wrong one. It is frustrating. It might be easier if it were placed at the far right.
Also it would be nice to have a back to the top at the bottom of the page. And the new format requires several steps to place work into a folder...well maybe there is a way that I am not aware of.
Thanks for listening. And off to cyberspace we go! (I hope)

Questions and Hopefully Answers

1.Use this post to ask any questions that you have concerning LiveText.
2.Feel free to create new posts to ask questions as well.
I just don't really like livetext. I'm not sold yet and am having trouble finding real perks to the organization of it. I don't know how much more likely I would be to show this to an employer than another type of portfolio. Can anyone convince me that livetext is great?
